Duplicate Content Problem

| September 8, 2015

Question: I’m Worried My Google+ Posts Are Going To Create A Duplicate Content Problem. What Should I Do?

Answer: This one is easy: No matter where you are syndicating your content, whether it’s Google+ or elsewhere, don’t just copy and paste the entire text. Instead, create a teaser with a link back to the original content. This teaser might be a recap, the first few paragraphs or whatever you choose.

And as a reminder, there is no “duplicate content penalty.” However, if you have the same article in two places, it could be possible they would be competing for the same spot on the search engines. Or not. But if you post a teaser and link back, you’ve giving your original content more juice to (possibly) get it higher in the search rankings.
